YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
OUR ANSWERS

Q |

What is the difference between a Talent Agent and a Casting Director?

A |

A Talent Agent works for the Talent. A Casting Director works for the Screen content creators.

A Talent Agent seeks employment opportunities, negotiates contracts on a Talent's behalf and generally looks out for the Talents best interest. For this they receive a commission percentage based on the the Talents fee.

Casting Directors are contracted by the screen industries, Producers, Production Companies, Networks and Advertising Agencies, to provide a casting service, seeking out talent for the clients screen projects.

Q |

Do you guarantee work?

A |

No, we cannot guarantee work as ultimately, we are not the ones who select you.  Our job is to represent you , and put you forward for work that suits your skill set. From there, the client or Casting Director will select who they want to audition or hire based on the suitability for the project.

Q |

Is there a joining fee?

A |

There is a one time joining fee. As a small business this is purely to cover initial administration costs. There is no annual fee. We then like all agents work on a commission basis.

Q |

What is commission?

A |

An agent takes a small percentage on the work they represent their talent for.
TTA commission rates are between 10-20% depending on the type of job.  Commission rates are stipulated in the TTA contract you can obtain for reference when meeting with the team.

Q |

If TTA are my agent can I still work for other people?

A |

Upon signing our contract, you will be asked which areas you would like us to represent you in, and naturally from that point, it is ethical to re-direct any work in this area through to your Agent whether you get the job via TTA or another platform.

It is important to we are kept in the loop and across all work in the areas we represent you in so as to not create a brand 'conflict of interest'.

Q |

I already work for other people, I don’t want to sign a contract.

A |

By signing the TTA contract it means that you will adhere to our requirements whilst working on projects obtained through Tasmanian Talent Agency. It will not affect your other work commitments unless at their end or ours it is a conflict, all of which can be discussed on a case by case basis.  It is important to always remain transparent across every commitment you are making in the industry.

Q |

Do you do training courses in modelling, deportment, acting, dancing or performance?

A |

We focus on hosting pop-up workshops and endorsing other established organisations running workshops that suit the performers/talents needs at the time.

We highly encourage continued learning. The landscape in Tasmania is forever growing so it is important as performers to be multi-skilled to be more frequently employable.

In most cases, there is a fee payable if you would like to do a workshop. This covers the cost of the facilitator and administration to host the workshop.

You will need to look out for these on our social pages. Occasionally these recommended opportunities will be emailed directly to you. It is your responsibility to book in for the workshops you feel are suited to you. If you are a member of the agency, it is recommended that if you are unsure to touch base with our admin team to ask to advise on if a workshop is suited to you or not.

Q |

Do I have to have/do training to get work?

A |

No you do not.  We will always submit talent for work they are suitable for or wish to gain experience in.  We. could submit you as an 'Extra' or 'General Promotional Talent' to gain on-the-job experience. It is important to note however that the more skilled you are in each area, the more employable you will be.

Workshops are a great opportunity for our talent to enhance their skills in difference areas and be seen in-front of industry professionals who book our talent.
